Images can add brightness to a page, and value to content. It is important to not rely too heavily on images for information though.

Images can be used aesthetically (to brighten up a page), or they can be used for information (to illustrate an example, or even graphs and charts). They should not be overused, especially in cases where text can be used, as this will lower the accessibility of your page.
